Pine Tree football got its last taste of live action before their season officially starts on the 29th. The Pirates faced off against a formidable 5A opponent in the Marshall Mavericks (10-3, regional semifinalists last season). In a live-play 12-minute quarter, the Pirates put up 14 points headed by junior quarterback Colton Croft (17-26 for 306 passing yards and 3 touchdowns in 2 appearances last season) while also holding the Mavericks scoreless by nabbing two interceptions, one of which was returned 95 yards for a touchdown.
Coming off the first 10-win season in Pine Tree football history since 1976, the Pirates have acquired both new offensive and defensive coordinators, those individuals being Zac Spears and Austin Blanco. But Coach Jason Bachman continues to man the wheel, hoping to steer an admittedly younger but equally high-potential Pirates team and staff towards making double-digit win seasons a tradition at Pine Tree.
The Pirates will kick off their 2025 regular season on the 29th at Pirate Stadium against the experienced and state-ranked Gilmer Buckeyes, who also happened to be the Pirates opening matchup and first win last season, defeating the Buckeyes 22-15. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m., and will be the Pirates first test to see if they can replicate the success of last season. The full Pine Tree football schedule can be viewed below:
