Against the odds, our tennis team is transforming challenges into triumphs, showcasing resilience and determination as they rise above past struggles in their new district. With newfound confidence and unwavering support, these athletes made their mark on the playoffs for the first time since the 2008-2009 season.
“We have surpassed our expectations that we set at the end of last year’s season,” Head Coach Kaleigh Robertson said. Confidence was a significant hurdle for the team to clear this year. “The past couple of years, the tennis team has been one of the lower-performing teams, and as a result, we’ve carried that same mentality into this season.”
Despite this, the team has made notable improvements. “The tennis team has managed to be a close-knit team this year. The seniors have truly led this team in ways that I as the head coach could never. Each player on the team has felt loved, supported, and cared for by their teammates.” This support has been crucial to their success. “In the past, we would give up when we started losing, but this year the team has fought for every single point.”
A key area of growth is the team’s belief in themselves. By encouraging players, the coaches have built on the players’ core beliefs this year. “In practice and during matches, we continually reassure the players that they are just as good or better than their opponents.”
After their unfortunate playoff loss against Pleasant Grove, the team is optimistic in their growth towards the spring season. With determination and support, the team is ready to face the challenge that the rest of this season presents head-on.
The tennis program is led by Head Coach Kaleigh Robertson and Assistant Coach Dr. Will Walker. Further information about the tennis team can be found at www.pinetreeathletics.com/tennis
